A community needs continuity, not only events
The work is to create enough structure for people to keep learning together while leaving room for the community to change.
I have organized design communities for nine years and now lead the official Friends of Figma Seoul community, a volunteer role supported by Figma.
Across more than 20 local and global meetups, I have treated topic selection, speaker support, event operations, and member feedback as parts of one ongoing service.
Community leadership returns to product practice
A meetup is also a place to observe where tools, language, and everyday work stop making sense.
The community has grown beyond 6,000 active members. Keeping it useful means listening for repeated questions, making specialist knowledge approachable, and helping members become contributors rather than only an audience.
Those habits return directly to product work: frame the problem clearly, make participation legible, and build a system that can outlast one organizer or event.
